Blackdown, the highest point in Sussex is a 500 acre common on the Southeast of Haslemere owned by the Natural Trust. With stunning views to the East, South and SouthWest you can see the North Downs near Dorking and the South Downs from Eastborne to Chichester and everything in between.
approaching the top from Boarden Door Bottom
Above is a view of the path up to the top of Blackdown from Boarden Door Bottom and Chase Lane showing the typical cover for a large amount of Blackdown - Scotch Pine and Bilberry.

 southwest blackdown
The view to the Southwest of Blackdown over Fernden Lane towards Fernhurst and Woolbeding Common (Midhurst & Petersfield). This view shows some of the heathland cover of Blackdown with Gorse, Heather and Bilberry. There is a patchwork of heathland over Blackdown were the rangers try to keep the invading plants down (Scotch Pine, Bracken and the not least Rhododendron). One day the National Trust may get animals grazing the heathland to control these plants.

view from blackdown south
The view from the Southern tip of Blackdown from the viewpoint known as "the Temple of the Winds" click here to see the larger version of this panorama (not very professionally stitched together).
The south downs are clearly visible - the obvious hill in the middle of the picture is Ditchling Beacon.
