Purple Lizard has been working with the Channel 4 Interactive team to develop the high score engine for Sky Digital viewers of Channel 4's Banzai. The engine went live for Banzai on the 12th November 2001. Purple Lizard worked closely with the Channel 4 Interactive, NDS and Sky teams to put the voting engine live for Banzai. The application builds on the success of the Big Brother 2 voting engine, delivered by Purple Lizard on June 16th.
Purple Lizard developed a java based high scores engine that can process over a hundred scores per second. Viewers can play the Banzai game using their remote control, and register their scores at the end of the show. Prizes are on offer for best scores per episode, and series as a whole, (subject to the successful completion of a tie break question). The Purple Lizard developed application processes high scores as they arrive via Sky, putting them into a database for subsequent moderation. Viewers will be able to login to the channel4 website, www.channel4.com/banzai and view their high scores the day after playing. The high score engine was developed for the Channel 4 Interactive's Java 2 Enterprise platform and runs on iPlanet 's Web Server and BEA's WebLogic server.
